THE CHALLENGE OF KEEPING SELF-SERVICE SLEEP PODS CONNECTED
Self-service sleep pods deployed in airports and public spaces face a connectivity challenge that most businesses never encounter. GoSleep pods are installed in third-party environments – airports, transit hubs, and public spaces – where the local IT infrastructure is outside GoSleep's control. Relying on venue Wi-Fi is not a viable option for a device that must stay online around the clock to handle access control, booking logic, customer usage flow, and cloud communication.
Any connectivity gap means lost revenue, poor customer experience, and costly on-site support calls. What was needed was a dedicated, independent, and secure mobile connectivity solution that could work reliably across any site, in any country, without depending on local network conditions. Equally important was the ability to monitor and manage those devices remotely – eliminating truck rolls and keeping support costs under control as the deployment scales.

HOW RUT241 4G ROUTER POWERS GOSLEEP'S CONNECTED POD INFRASTRUCTURE
GoSleep selected the Teltonika RUT241 industrial 4G router to provide each sleep pod with its own secure, independent internet connection. The RUT241 provides the sleep pods with support of multiple connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and eSIM capabilities, ensuring flexible and reliable operation across different environments.
In a typical deployment, the pod's embedded control system connects to the RUT241 via Wi-Fi, while the router provides WAN access over the mobile network. Communication between the pod and GoSleep's cloud backend runs over HTTPS for secure API calls, with MQTT used for device data exchange and monitoring where needed.
The RUT241's compact form factor (specific measurements: 83 x 25 x 74 mm) fits neatly within the space-constrained pod setup or on the info screen. Its industrial-grade stability ensures long-term unattended operation – a critical requirement for devices running continuously in public environments with no on-site technician present.
To manage the growing fleet of deployed pods centrally, GoSleep uses Teltonika's Remote Management System (RMS). RMS gives the GoSleep team real-time visibility into router status, connectivity health, and device availability across all locations, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and push changes remotely – reducing downtime, cutting support costs, and making the entire solution easier to scale across new sites and countries.
Additionally, the solution includes an information screen that operates via the same Wi-Fi network as the pods. This screen displays a web interface with real-time pod availability and essential user guidance, enhancing the overall user experience while maintaining a simple and unified network architecture.
"We chose the Teltonika RUT241 4G router because it gave us a reliable and independent connectivity solution for our sleep pods. In our business, stable remote access and easy deployment are essential, and the RUT241 matched those needs very well." – Topi Piispanen, CEO at GoSleep Services Oy
