GLOBAL REMOTE ENERGY MANAGEMENT USING RUT241 4G CONNECTIVITY

HIGHLIGHTS

✔ The majority of solar, hybrid, and microgrid projects use equipment from multiple vendors. This highlights the requirement for all devices to be managed using the same controls.

ENCombi offers a web-based monitoring platform (ECcloud) that integrates universal controllers and sensors to enable real-time and historical data visualization, performance analysis, and remote monitoring of energy assets.

✔ To ensure accurate and reliable data from every device, continuous internet connectivity is essential. When paired with the Teltonika RUT241, the ENcombi Energy Management System maintains exactly that – stable, always-on communication across all connected equipment.

PERSISTENT ENERGY CHALLENGES DEMAND SMARTER ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

A study analysing photovoltaic (PV) plants found that energy losses due to inefficiencies accounted for between 22.34% and 27.58% of the net energy yield, which was far higher than losses caused by equipment failures. This is just a small statistic in comparison to how many different products are considered when battery energy storage systems, grids, and gensets, the number is only rising.

Most often, these devices in an electrical power network would be made by different manufacturers, with no centralised system to efficiently monitor energy, downtime, inefficiency, and maintenance. With solutions like ENcombi, it becomes a lot easier to track these metrics and manage a network of energy systems.

Many of ENcombi’s energy deployments are situated in remote or rural areas where fibre-optic internet is unavailable, making stable connectivity impossible without alternatives like 4G cellular networks. In other sites, connectivity depends on Wi-Fi or wired LAN, meaning the device must remain flexible enough to support all infrastructure types while maintaining stable, uninterrupted data flow.

Ensuring that every energy asset stays online is essential for real-time monitoring, performance analysis, and fault response. This, in conjunction with the connection to off-grid locations, underscores the need for a truly universal router that can adapt to diverse network standards and regulatory environments without requiring different models for each country.

Project delivery speed is another key requirement.

ENcombi maintains global stockpiles of connectivity devices to minimize long lead times and ensure swift implementation, which is crucial when deploying systems across continents. This is why they sought a router that is globally certified, widely compatible, and immediately available – one that could be shipped to and used in Australia, Europe, Asia, and beyond without compliance issues or delays.

INTEGRATING RUT241 4G ROUTER FOR REAL-TIME, GLOBAL ENERGY MONITORING

ENcombi’s energy monitoring and management platform helps operators maximise performance and minimise downtime across distributed energy assets such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage, grid connections, and gensets by providing a unified real-time view of device data and performance indicators.

It collects information from a wide range of equipment – including inverters, batteries, meters, and generators – and centralises it within an intuitive cloud dashboard. This allows operators to detect faults, performance drops, or inefficiencies before they escalate into critical failures, enabling faster troubleshooting, smarter maintenance planning, and data-driven optimisation of energy flows across hybrid energy ecosystems.

Teltonika's RUT241 4G router integrates seamlessly into this setup by providing the reliable connectivity required to transmit real-time energy data to the ECcloud platform. The ENcombi Energy Management System (EMS) connects directly to the RUT241 via Ethernet (RJ45), leveraging its 4G network or, when available, the client’s Wi-Fi or WAN to maintain uninterrupted communication across diverse deployment environments.

Because ENcombi solutions are deployed worldwide – spanning greenfield and brownfield sites, including remote locations without fibre infrastructure – the flexibility of the RUT241 ensures consistent operation whether connectivity relies on cellular networks or existing wired and wireless infrastructure.

Operators can remotely access on-site equipment through ECcloud using HTTP and VNC WebUI links, automatically generated via the Teltonika REST API to enable fast, configuration-free diagnostics and maintenance. The RUT241 also provides secure VPN tunnels for client PCs, ensuring full system oversight without requiring physical presence on-site.

Since ENcombi operates globally, the Global variant of the RUT241 allows for consistent deployment across all regions, simplifying logistics and ensuring long-term compatibility with international connectivity standards. According to ENcombi, the RUT241 Global is their preferred device for energy projects due to its reliability, scalability, and the ability to keep it in stock for rapid worldwide distribution – a major advantage in time-sensitive deployments.
