Simplifying IT infrastructure management with RMS

Highlights

Overseeing IT infrastructure management across multiple branch offices can be costly and inefficient, especially when technical issues require IT staff to travel to remote locations or other branch offices for troubleshooting and IT maintenance.

Network failures at remote sites can lead to downtime, disrupted business operations, and delayed issue resolution when reliable backup connectivity or remote access solutions are not available.

Teltonika RUTX12 router helps prevent network-related downtime at remote branch offices by providing LTE connectivity with two SIM cards, ensuring reliable backup internet access.

Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS) provides centralized IT infrastructure management and remote monitoring, while its RMS Connect service enables secure remote access to connected enterprise equipment.

Connectivity failures and difficulties supporting remote branch offices

Modern enterprises depend heavily on resilient IT infrastructure to maintain business continuity. At the same time, as more applications and services migrate to cloud environments, companies increasingly require dependable connectivity and effective remote IT management rather than relying solely on traditional on-site IT support.

For this reason, organizations operating multiple branch offices face significant challenges when maintaining dedicated IT staff at every location, as this can be both costly and inefficient. In particular, a technical issue at a remote site can result in downtime, delayed troubleshooting, and additional travel expenses for IT teams. Consequently, without appropriate remote IT solutions, even relatively simple technical issues may require an on-site visit.

Furthermore, the growth of remote work and distributed business operations has further increased the demand for secure remote access and management systems. In response to these challenges, businesses require continuous network availability at distributed locations, even if the primary connection fails.

They also need to remotely monitor and configure network equipment, access computers, and other connected devices without physically visiting the site and maintain effective IT infrastructure management while controlling operational costs.

Reliable connectivity and centralized remote IT management

To provide reliable connectivity and centralized remote management across branch offices, Teltonika RUTX12 router was deployed as the primary communication gateway at each location. This router was selected for its high-availability cellular architecture, designed for environments where network downtime can directly impact business operations.

It features two independent LTE Cat 6 cellular modems with two SIM cards, enabling simultaneous connections, improved network resilience, and optimized bandwidth usage. As a result, if one cellular connection becomes unavailable due to signal limitations, operator issues, or network failures, the second modem can provide a backup internet connection, maintain connectivity, and keep the branch office operational.

In addition, combined LTE performance of up to 600 Mbps supports business applications, including cloud services, remote desktop access, video conferencing, and other critical workloads. Beyond connectivity, RUTX12 also serves as the central communication hub for branch infrastructure. With multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, router connects computers, switches, servers, and other IP-based devices.

At the same time, this device runs RutOS, providing enterprise-grade networking features such as firewall configuration, VLAN support, routing, VPN services, secure administration, and network monitoring. Together, these capabilities ensure secure data communication while maintaining control over network access and traffic management.

To simplify IT infrastructure management across multiple locations, solution integrates Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS), a centralized cloud platform that enables IT teams to remotely monitor, configure, and maintain the entire router fleet. RMS allows administrators to track device status and performance, identify potential issues, manage configurations, deploy updates, and perform routine maintenance. This centralized approach ensures consistent network management, improves response times, and reduces the need for on-site visits across distributed locations.

Building on these remote management capabilities, RMS Connect, a service within RMS, provides secure remote access to devices connected within the local branch network. IT specialists can remotely access computers and third-party enterprise equipment through RDP, VNC, SSH, or web-based interfaces. As a result, they can diagnose issues, modify configurations, perform IT maintenance, and restore services completely remotely.

By combining resilient connectivity from RUTX12 with centralized IT infrastructure management, this solution provides scalable remote management and internet backup that helps organizations maintain business continuity, reduce support costs, minimize downtime, and efficiently manage distributed infrastructure with fewer resources.
