The Challenge – High-Speed Surveillance Without Permanent Infrastructure

Imagine a bustling music festival, a critical construction site, or a pop-up retail event. These temporary environments are a security professional's nightmare. They often lack permanent, wired infrastructure needed for traditional surveillance systems, creating a significant security gap.

For Broadband Telecom, this meant custom designing a connectivity solution that could handle multiple high-definition camera feeds without fail. They also needed a way to manage their entire network of deployed stations remotely, without needing to be on-site.

The Solution – A Rapid 5G Deployment for Uninterrupted Monitoring

To bridge this connectivity gap, Broadband Telecom engineered the Rapid Deployment Mobile Surveillance Station, a self-contained solution built around the Teltonika‘s RUTM50 industrial 5G router.

The station’s design focuses on performance and resilience. A 6.5m (20-foot) telescopic mast holds between one and four IP cameras. These cameras connect via Gigabit Ethernet to the RUTM50 5G router and are powered through an external PoE injector. The RUTM50 is housed securely within a PR1ICA70 outdoor antenna enclosure at the top of the mast. This placement ensures optimal signal reception and protects the hardware from the elements.

The cornerstone of this solution is the RUTM50 router’s 5G connectivity. It provides an ultra-fast (up to 3,4 Gbps) uplink, essential for live-streaming high-definition surveillance footage without lag or interruption. Its dual SIM with automatic failover ensures reliability, while multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports allow for direct, simple connections to the IP cameras.

The RUTM50 also includes a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot with a custom landing page. This feature allows Broadband Telecom to provide separate internet access for the public and staff at events, while keeping the surveillance network isolated and secure.

Security is paramount for remote surveillance, especially when transmitting sensitive video data over public networks. To ensure this, the RUTM50 5G router includes an integrated firewall and multiple VPN options, providing secure data transmission and protecting against unauthorized access.

Teltonika’s RMS was crucial for overcoming the challenge of managing geographically dispersed sites. RMS provides Broadband Telecom with a centralized platform to monitor the health of the router, reboot devices, and verify the station’s GPS location.
