Getting an IoT device online shouldn't be difficult. With RutOS firmware update 7.23, Teltonika routers and gateways now automatically recognise Melita SIM cards and apply the correct APN, with no manual configuration required.

This functionality supports the full Melita SIM range: IoT SIMs for M2M data traffic and standard SIMs for broader network compatibility. Whether you’re deploying one device or a thousand, the process is the same: insert the SIM, power on, and you’re connected.

How does automatic APN detection work?

Under the hood, RutOS checks the SIM against its built-in operator database each time the device powers up.

Here's the process:

  1. SIM detection: The modem reads the SIM’s IMSI and ICCID during boot.

  2. Operator matching: RutOS uses the SIM’s MCC/MNC identifiers to match it with the correct Melita entry in the APN database.

  3. Auto-connect: The correct APN is applied automatically, the WAN interface comes up, and the device connects without any manual configuration.

How to deploy Melita SIM cards with Teltonika devices?

Auto APN detection is available on Teltonika devices that support the Auto APN feature and run RutOS firmware 7.23 or later. To check your firmware version, go to System → Firmware in the WebUI. If an update is needed, download the latest firmware here.

For devices already deployed in the field, no immediate changes are required. They will continue working as normal. Once updated to RutOS 7.23 or later, any Melita SIM inserted into the device will be recognised automatically.

Setting up a Melita SIM on a Teltonika device takes four steps:

  1. Confirm the device is running RutOS 7.23 or later.

  2. Make sure the APN setting is set to Auto APN.

  3. Insert the Melita SIM card, either IoT or standard.

  4. Power on the device. It will identify the SIM, apply the correct APN, and connect to the network automatically.

Simplify your IoT deployments

Update your Teltonika device to RutOS 7.23 or later and enable automatic APN detection for Melita SIM cards, reducing setup time and ensuring faster connectivity straight out of the box.
