Secure by design: Teltonika achieves IEC 62443-4-1

27 March 2026

Security has always been a core priority at Teltonika. We continuously strengthen our development processes, invest in secure practices, and enhance our expertise to ensure that cybersecurity is built into our products from the very beginning and maintained throughout their entire lifecycle.

This ongoing commitment is now validated by the successful achievement of obtained IEC 62443-4-1 certification, an internationally recognized standard for secure development within Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS). The certification confirms that cybersecurity is systematically integrated into our development processes.

Unlike product-level certifications, IEC 62443-4-1 evaluates the secure development lifecycle (SDL) as a whole. The standard ensures that security is incorporated throughout all development stages, including security requirements definition, system design, secure implementation, security testing, vulnerability management, and ongoing update support.

Security at every stage of development

IEC 62443-4-1 defines eight secure development principles that ensure cybersecurity is systematically addressed throughout the entire product lifecycle. At Teltonika, these practices are implemented and maintained by the in-house R&D Security team, providing consistent oversight across all IoT devices’ development stages.

The eight principles include:

Security management

Establishing security policies, roles, and responsibilities, along with management commitment and continuous improvement.

Specification of security requirements

Defining product security requirements based on risk assessment and system context.

Secure by design

Incorporating threat modelling, risk assessment, and security architecture principles early in the design phase.

Secure implementation

Applying secure coding practices supported by code reviews and static and dynamic analysis.

Verification and validation testing

Conducting dedicated security testing, including penetration testing, fuzz testing, and regression testing.

Management of security-related issues

Establishing processes for reporting, tracking, and resolving identified vulnerabilities.

Security update management

Ensuring timely and secure delivery of patches and updates throughout the product lifecycle.

✔ Security guidelines

Providing users with clear guidance on secure configuration, deployment, and maintenance.

What does it mean for our partners & clients?

IEC 62443-4-1 certification confirms that Teltonika follows a structured and independently verified secure development lifecycle.

For partners, system integrators, and organizations operating in industrial and critical infrastructure environments, it means reduced cybersecurity risk and easier compliance with security requirements. It also provides confidence in the long-term reliability and support of Teltonika IoT devices
