Reliable and secure connectivity is essential for critical infrastructure, from energy utilities to industrial networks. As the demand for dependable communication grows, the 450 MHz frequency band is gaining importance. To support its development and future applications, Teltonika has joined the 450 MHz Alliance, bringing its industrial connectivity expertise to the table.
In this interview, Tomas Mikolaitis, Product Development Coordinator at Teltonika, shares what motivated the decision, how the collaboration supports future product development, and what it means for our clients.
What led Teltonika to join the 450 MHz Alliance?
Utilities and other industrial operators have relied on Teltonika networking devices for many years and are now evaluating 450 MHz connectivity to support essential infrastructure and services.
Teltonika objective is to contribute directly to the discussions shaping the future of this band. Alliance membership enables the company to exchange expertise with operators, equipment manufacturers and other industry stakeholders.
Why is 450 MHz important for industrial connectivity?
The 450 MHz frequency band offers wider coverage and better signal penetration than higher cellular frequencies, making it particularly suitable for connecting infrastructure spread across large or remote areas.
Its propagation characteristics can help operators cover greater distances with fewer base stations, depending on network conditions and terrain.
For utilities and other industrial connectivity deployments 450 MHz networks can support smart metering, remote monitoring, and industrial automation networks, including in locations where conventional cellular coverage is limited.
How does joining the Alliance support Teltonika product development goals?
One of the key benefits of Alliance membership is gaining a clearer understanding of what critical infrastructure operators need from their communication equipment.
Through collaboration with other members, we can identify emerging technical possibilities, explore network compatibility considerations, and get a better understanding of the expectations regarding security, reliability, and long-term performance.
This direct industry feedback is particularly valuable for product development. It allows us to make more informed decisions about device functionality and ensure that our solutions address real operational requirements rather than theoretical use cases.
Teltonika already offers devices for the 450 MHz frequency band. How does it contribute to our role in the Alliance?
Our existing experience with 450 MHz industrial connectivity provides a solid foundation. Teltonika devices such as the TRB236 and TRB256 already support applications ranging from utility networks to remote monitoring. These applications help us understand the technical requirements of 450 MHz networks.
By combining this expertise with insights from other Alliance members, we can identify emerging markets and determine where Teltonika technologies can bring the greatest value to industrial connectivity.
What opportunities does this partnership with the 450 MHz Alliance create for Teltonika and its customers?
We seek to strengthen our position in the critical infrastructure connectivity market and expand our portfolio of purpose-built networking solutions.

The company’s goal is to deliver purpose-built industrial connectivity devices that provide the security, reliability, and remote management capabilities these applications demand.
For our customers, this means networking devices designed with real operational challenges in mind, from maintaining connectivity with remote assets to simplifying the management of distributed industrial networks.
I'm personally very excited about this collaboration. Working more closely with the 450 MHz ecosystem will help us better understand customer expectations and turn those insights into practical products.
Industrial connectivity can’t afford downtime, and Teltonika is working with the 450 Alliance to make sure it doesn’t have to.
