Keep your network safe - the essentials of cybersecurity Wednesday, 30 March 2022 at 8:00:00 UTC Register Online security must always be the highest priority, and lately, even more so than ever. The scale of damage made by a security breach could be way more significant than you ever thought. The awareness of IoT security has increased to another level due to recent global events. In this webinar, we will present a checklist of required measures to improve network security and prevent cyber threats. SPEAKERS Questions & Answers There are some examples from device manufacturers in other countries (example: Routers) with built in features to send Your data to 3rd unknown party or back to themselves. How do we get to know about it? How do we know where our data is being sent? What tools should be used to prevent this in case we want to continue using the device, but keep our data secure? With Teltonika Networks devices, it is possible (using TCP dump) to capture communications packets, which went in and out of the router WAN interface. Later with tools like 'Wireshark', you can analyze traffic and block unwanted communication in the firewall. Another option is to look for publicly available research about devices security and take action by disabling data sending or blocking traffic in the firewall. How can i convince myself that my hosting provider has a high level of protection against cyberattacks? Is there any certification/qualification ? A good practice is talking with providers about their capabilities and mitigation plans for different cyberattacks. Also, check publicly available information about the hosting provider and its track records. Is there a best practice guide for security config of teltonika routers for application types, i.e. polling data logger (PC) via public IP? Teltonika Networks out of the factory comes with number of security options activated: disabled public access, limited attempts for WebUI, SSH attemps and others. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices CONNECTIVITY DEVICES FOR CERN’S PARTICLE PHYSICS RESEARCH 21 September 2022 The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN for short, is the world’s top physics research organization and home to the largest particle physics laboratory on Earth. With the goal of uncovering the secrets and mechanics of this universe we inhabit, CERN carries out extensive research and experiments in which new particles, such as the Higgs boson, are discovered. Those particles, by the way, are what make up you, me, and everything in between. Naturally, a pinnacle of human innovation must always remain in the vanguard of technological progress, something that cannot be achieved without the power of connectivity that makes complex and intricate systems operate as one cohesive whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts. To that end, CERN has partnered with Teltonika Networks and incorporated its networking devices in some of its innovative research tools. ONE ROBOT TO DO IT ALL The first of those tools is the CERNbot , which is about as close as an IoT solution can get to being a literal Swiss army knife. This multipurpose robot is a marvel of adaptability, capable of accomplishing a myriad of different tasks in hazardous environments unfit for human hands. CERNbot’s adaptable nature results from its ability to customize and upgrade itself with external “add-ons” that connect to its core. From sample extraction, installation, reverse engineering, milling, lifting, quality control, chemical monitoring, and more, the list of research tasks CERNbot is responsible for is quite a long one. The trick is versatility in the range of interfaces it can connect via and the reliable and stable internet connection established and maintained between the external hardware and CERN’s internal network. So which connectivity device can help it accomplish that, and where in CERNbot’s core does it fit? Find out that and more in this use case . WHEN PARTICLES COLLIDE Another tool routinely used by CERN is the Train Inspection Monorail, or TIM for short. While TIM is somewhat of an extension of the CERNbot, it serves a very specific role in the Large Hadron Collider – a 27km (16.7 miles) tunnel where particles are accelerated up to just under the speed of light. This very much necessitates rigorous control of environmental variables within the Collider, ranging from oxygen levels and temperature to the status of the tunnel’s thousands of supercooled electromagnets and other structural pieces. That’s where TIM comes in, being a mobile vehicle that houses different sensors and cameras and goes around the tunnel, surveying it and collecting data. But that data needs to reach CERN’s internal network in real-time to be accessible to scientists, so TIM can’t do its job without a networking device. Which device best suits this role, and what does the setup look like? Check out this use case to find out. THE CONNECTIVITY PRINCIPLE Luca Rosario Buonocore, research fellow, robotic engineer, and R&D project manager at CERN, had the following to say on the collaboration: “For a long time, we searched for a connectivity device that could fulfill the many requirements of both CERNbot and TIM. The connection it provides must be secure, VPN and all, and I/O versatility was key. Since these robots run on batteries, low power consumption was also paramount. Teltonika Networks had a device that satisfies these specifications and has been performing excellently since day one, letting us control the robots seamlessly and with no latency or interruptions. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Teltonika Networks and upgrading the devices currently employed as new and improved ones that better fit our technological needs become available on Teltonika Network’s catalog.” LIKE THIS STORY? The Perfect Match for Teltonika Cellular Routers Beyond providing industrial-grade signal-enhancing capabilities, these antennas had an additional goal to achieve during their design process. Special care was given to their compatibility with specific cellular routers in our portfolio . This was meant to make deployment easier and ensure a seamless, optimised fit between antenna and router. Specifically, the four antennas are: Antenna for the RUTX50 and RUTM50 Antenna for RUT2-series routers Antenna for RUT9-series router Antenna for the RUTX11 and RUTM11 As part of this integration, the antennas require no power and the above routers can be powered via a passive PoE injector. Please note that such injector is sold separately. Optimised fit has one more trick up its sleeve: integrated mounting bracket for wall, ceiling, pole, or mast mounting for quick and easy deployment. IP67: No Water, No Dust Proudly encasing these antennas is IP67 housing , featuring operating temperatures ranging from -40 °C to 75 °C and ensuring ample protection against water immersion up to one metre in depth, and no ingress of dust. In practice, this means that these products are well-suited for industrial IoT solutions in environments sporting sandstorms and heavy rain. For example, these outdoor antennas are perfect for solar farms , CCTV video surveillance solutions, public Wi-Fi hotspots, mining and construction sites, camping and RV Internet , unmanaged surface vehicles, and the list goes on and on. No matter if installed in arid desert environments of Australia and the Middle East, the monsoon season of India, or the evergreen rainy conditions of cities like Seatle and Bergen, these antennas help ensure uninterrupted wireless connectivity and maximum protection of the cellular router housed inside. Signal, Coverage & Connectivity On average, these outdoor antennas strengthen signal range by up to 20 times that of a standard antenna. For example, their mobile connection range can, under ideal weather conditions, reach 5-8 km. Although they may appear similar on the surface, these four antennas differ in the cellular routers they were designed to house, the number of SMA male connectors they feature, and the communication technologies they support. First, the antenna designed to house the RUTX50 and RUTM50 5G routers supports 5G/4G, Wi-Fi, and GNSS communication, and is equipped with seven connectors: four for mobile, two for Wi-Fi, and one for GNSS. Second, the antenna designed to house RUT2-series routers, including the RUT200 , RUT240 , RUT241 , and RUT260 , supports 4G and Wi-Fi communication. It comes with three connectors: two for mobile and one for Wi-Fi. Third, the antenna designed to house RUT9-series routers, including the RUT901 , RUT906 , RUT951 , RUT955 , and RUT956 , supports 4G, GNSS, and Wi-Fi communication. This antenna features five connectors: two for mobile, two for Wi-Fi, and one for GNSS. Lastly, the antenna designed to house the RUTX11 and RUTM11 routers, supporting 4G, GNSS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth communication. It is equipped with six connectors: two for mobile, two for Wi-Fi, one for GNSS, and one for Bluetooth. Please note that as the RUTM11 does not support Bluetooth, the Bluetooth capabilities of this antenna are only relevant to the RUTX11. Get the Signal—Be the Judge We are confident in the signal-enhancing capabilities of our outdoor routers, and even more so in their perfect fit with the aforementioned cellular routers. The real test, however, is seamless integration in your industrial IoT solutions, with you as the judge. - Brave the Elements with the OTD140 Outdoor Router
The Teltonika Networks OTD140 outdoor router was designed for outdoor solutions. Learn more in this article. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices Brave the Elements with the OTD140 Outdoor Router 10 January 2024 Rain. Snow. Dust. Sand. The weather is undeniably a challenge that outdoor solutions must overcome. The first-ever outdoor router by Teltonika Networks, the OTD140, was engineered to provide seamless and uninterrupted connectivity to your networking solutions – no matter the weather. Humanity is at a level where we can accurately calculate the speed of minuscule particles and accelerate them with the utmost precision . And yet, predicting whether next Tuesday will be rainy or not remains somewhat of a probability. There’s a good chance it will, expert meteorologists say using cutting-edge technology, so take an umbrella with you. Just in case. The fickleness of weather is a critical factor when designing an outdoor solution. Your industrial cellular router may be integral for automation, predictive maintenance, or simply providing connectivity support, but all of that goes out the window if it can’t withstand precipitation like rain, hail, and snow, or dust and sandstorms common in many areas of the world. These give an ultimatum to your networking solution: protect the connectivity device, or have it fail. Unlike you when going to work, a cellular router cannot simply ‘take an umbrella’. A common workaround is taking the extra step and getting an external add-on – an ‘armour’ your device can wear. But a much better alternative is the choice of device itself: a dedicated outdoor router that can brave the elements on its own. World, meet the first-ever outdoor router by Teltonika Networks: the OTD140. Beyond elementary specs The OTD140 outdoor router is a dust and water-resistant cellular router designed to withstand weather conditions. The device is encased in durable, IP55 plastic (PC+ASA) housing. Defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), this means that dust and water jets from any direction do not interfere with the safe operation of the equipment. In practice, IP55 makes this 4G router perfect for deployment in outdoor applications, including CCTV cameras and sensors , lift stations , wind and solar farms, and more. Of course, the solution being installed out in the open means the fewer cabling needed – the better. Fortunately, the OTD140 isn’t just an outdoor router, but a PoE+ router as well. This allows it to power end devices using the same cable used to provide that end device with connectivity. It has 2 Ethernet ports with PoE+ capabilities: one with PoE-in and one with PoE-out, with which it can provide up to 15 W for powering an end device. Now that you know you can safely rely on the OTD140 to protect the connection, let’s talk about that connection. The device provides seamless LTE Cat 4 connectivity with 2 SIM cards, allowing for reliability features like failover, backup WAN, and other switching scenarios to ensure a stable and uninterrupted connection. This connection is secured using firewalls, VPNs, access control, and VLAN capabilities, among others. In terms of industrial protocol support, the OTD140 covers Modbus, MQTT, SMNP, and many other key protocols you know and love for your networking solutions. Note that this outdoor router does not have Wi-Fi capabilities by itself. If your solution could use Wi-Fi on top of outdoor resilience, we recommend adding a Wi-Fi access point, such as our TAP100 or TAP200 . Like other Teltonika Networks routers , this PoE+ router runs on RutOS and is supported by our Remote Management System (RMS), enabling simple and comprehensive remote management, access, and control capabilities over both the outdoor router itself and end devices connected to it. This is especially important for outdoor solutions that aren’t easily or frequently accessed in person, such as those installed on mountaintops or deep in the wilderness, like automated remote weather stations or wildlife protection solutions. Out in the open Let’s take a look at an example use case where the OTD140 really shines. Imagine a construction site with its vehicles and equipment staying on-site 24/7 as construction progresses over the course of months. All that equipment demands constant surveillance of the site, so CCTV cameras and a cellular router are installed on poles throughout the site. As days become weeks and weeks become months, the weather is ever-changing. Heat waves come and go in the summer, followed by heavy rain in the winter. In some parts of the world, snowstorms rage instead. In other still, dust and sandstorms scour the site regularly. Not an ideal environment for your average connectivity device, but the OTD140 outdoor router is anything but average. Click on the topology to learn more about this use case. Want to learn more? If you’re interested in learning more about the OTD140, as well as the challenges and opportunities of outdoor network connectivity as a whole, join Operational Marketing Project Executive, Pranas Aksamitauskas, and Engineer Vytautas Dalibagas in an upcoming webinar taking place on January 17th at 11 A.M. As noted in the European Parliament’s report on smart mobility, connectivity is a key enabler of safer, more efficient transport systems across Europe, shaping both policy and infrastructure. But delivering reliable internet in motion isn’t easy. Constant vibration, harsh environments, and cross-border handovers make it a tough challenge. That’s where the ATRM50 comes in, Teltonika’s first 5G transportation router with M12 connectors, engineered for real-world mobility. With multiple certifications, cutting-edge cellular speeds, and design tailored for high-vibration, high-demand environments, it’s built to keep vehicles connected—whether it’s a city bus, a utility truck, or a train. So, what exactly makes the ATRM50 stand out? Let’s explore how it goes beyond a typical 5G router. ATRM50 in Focus: Design, Durability, and Always-On Connectivity Reliable by Design Most routers rely on RJ45 or barrel connectors—fine for office walls, but not for moving vehicles. The ATRM50 features four M12 X-coded Gigabit Ethernet ports and one M12 A-coded power input. This ensures both data and power connections remain stable on the move. No more cables coming loose mid-route or power cuts that disrupt key systems. From onboard surveillance and ticketing to digital signage and diagnostics, the ATRM50 keeps everything securely connected and running smoothly. Dual SIM and eSIM for Always-On Connectivity Signal changes fast when you’re moving across neighborhoods, cities, and even borders. That’s why the ATRM50 , includes dual SIM slots and an integrated eSIM with up to 7 profiles. It can automatically switch between carriers based on signal strength, network performance, or location, helping you avoid high roaming charges and reduce connectivity costs when traveling internationally. Whether you're crossing country lines, passing through tunnels, or simply dealing with uneven cellular coverage, the router keeps everything online by switching to the best available connection—no user input required. Ignition Detection and Low Battery Protection Smart power management matters in vehicles. The ATRM50 includes ignition detection, allowing it to power on or off automatically with the vehicle—saving energy and extending component lifespan. Meanwhile, low battery detection ensures the device receives a signal when the vehicle’s battery is running low, prompting it to shut down safely before full discharge. Certified for Rail – Ready for More While the ATRM50 is fully certified for railway use (EN 45545-2 and EN 50155), its rugged design goes far beyond the tracks. Built to endure fire, shock, extreme temperatures, and electromagnetic interference, this router is a reliable choice for any harsh and high-vibration environment—not just rail. From bumpy roads and freezing winds to construction sites, wind turbines , and even mining or oil & gas operations, the ATRM50 stays firmly in place. Its robust housing and integrated mounting flanges ensure it keeps performing, no matter how tough the job site gets. Speed That Moves With You A reliable 5G router is essential for modern vehicles. Whether it’s streaming dashcam footage, uploading telematics, or providing fast Wi-Fi for passengers, today’s transport systems rely on high-speed, low-latency connectivity. The ATRM50 delivers cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps, ensuring real-time responsiveness for data-heavy services. It provides failover with backup WAN, keeping the connection stable even when crossing borders or switching between carriers. Whether you’re navigating city congestion or speeding down a rural highway, this router makes sure your cloud-connected applications don’t hit a dead zone. Integrated GNSS for Real-Time Tracking The ATRM50 comes with built-in GNSS for precise location tracking—ideal for route optimization, fleet coordination, and real-time updates to dispatch centers or passengers. Location data can be securely transmitted over 5G and monitored remotely via Teltonika’s RMS platform. This makes it ideal for any vehicle where knowing its exact position improves service—be it a delivery van, a shuttle bus, or a long-distance train. Real-time location tracking also opens the door to smarter planning and incident response across entire fleets. Centralized Control and Enhanced Security Transportation fleets are constantly on the move and often spread across regions. Managing routers manually isn’t practical, which is why the ATRM50 supports Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS) . With RMS, you can push firmware updates, monitor performance, adjust settings, and troubleshoot remotely the entire fleet. For secure connectivity, the ATRM50 supports VPN functionality, allowing encrypted communication between vehicles and your central systems. The ATRM50 also features a hardware-based Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which securely stores VPN credentials and private keys in a tamper-resistant chip. This adds an extra layer of protection, helping to keep fleet-wide connections reliable and secure. REAL-WORLD APPLICATION: CONNECTIVITY IN MOTION As European countries push to reduce carbon emissions , trains are becoming the preferred alternative to short-haul flights—especially on routes where rail travel offers a greener and nearly as fast option. But this shift brings new expectations. Passengers now demand real-time updates, onboard Wi-Fi, and seamless digital experiences, while operators rely on connected control systems to maintain performance and efficiency. Yet rail environments pose serious technical challenges. From tunnels and cross-border transitions to multi-carriage train lengths and constant vibrations, ensuring stable connectivity in motion is no small feat. Traditional networking hardware often struggles to keep up—making robust, rail-ready infrastructure a necessity for the next generation of travel. That’s where the ATRM50 steps in—not as a generic 5G router, but as a dedicated transport connectivity router with M12 connectors. In recent rail deployments, operators have used it to maintain seamless connectivity between carriages, stream live surveillance feeds to control centers, and coordinate fleet movements in real time—all without constant technician intervention. The result? Fewer disruptions, smoother operations, and higher passenger satisfaction. And with remote management tools, scaling and supporting hundreds of onboard routers is no longer a logistical nightmare. THE NEW BACKBONE OF TRANSPORT CONNECTIVITY In mobile applications, there’s no room for second chances. Whether transporting people or parcels, you need rugged, reliable, and future-ready connectivity. With the ATRM50, Teltonika delivers exactly that: a rugged M12 router with 5G, GNSS, and dual SIM plus eSIM for seamless, always-on connectivity.
