Secure Mobile Surveillance Powered by RUT956 4G Router

Highlights

Artek is uniquely positioned in the market as both a design firm and a distribution company, supporting a wide spectrum of industries that rely on dependable, adaptable power systems in demanding environments.

The company developed a solar-powered mobile security enclosure together with TelescopicMast, manufacturer and supplier, combining remote video monitoring, access control, and cloud-connected surveillance for deployments in locations without fixed infrastructure.

Teltonika’s RUT956 LTE router was the ideal connectivity choice, enabling reliable cellular communication, remote management via RMS, dual SIM failover, and a compact network architecture suited for space-constrained outdoor deployments.

Power and Connectivity in Limited Enclosure Space

Modern security operations depend on mobile surveillance units deployed to temporary, remote, or rapidly changing environments – from construction sites and critical infrastructure to high-value asset protection zones. These are high-risk environments where gaps in video monitoring or access control can have serious consequences.

Artek, together with TelescopicMast, was deploying a mobile security enclosure mounted on a telescopic mast for exactly this kind of environment. The system needed to connect two IP cameras – a 360-degree wide-area camera and a PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera for targeted observation – along with speaker and lighting equipment, all within a solar-powered enclosure.

The core requirements were demanding – real-time, high-quality video transmission to the client's cloud-based monitoring platform. Control of the network device itself was needed, so field technicians could troubleshoot without traveling to the site. It had to be compact, low-complexity hardware footprint to fit within a predefined enclosure alongside power distribution and other electrical components.

Using separate routers, PoE switches, and additional network components would consume too much cabinet space, complicate wiring, and increase failure points. That’s why this deployment needed a smart approach.

One Compact Device for Reliable Connectivity

To achieve this smart mobile surveillance, Artek chose the Teltonika RUT956 4G router as the central connectivity device inside the enclosure. As an industrial-grade LTE router, the RUT956 was designed precisely for the conditions this deployment demanded: outdoor environments, variable temperatures, vibration, and unstable power – all common in field security operations.

The RUT956's LTE connection provided reliable cellular connectivity, enabling continuous encrypted transmission of video data from both cameras to the client's cloud platform, where security personnel could monitor feeds in real time and respond to events as they occurred. This ensured real-time site visibility and remote access control without dependency on local network infrastructure – a key advantage for deployments that may be relocated as operational needs change.

Since the IP cameras (360-degree wide-area and a PTZ camera) and auxiliary equipment required Power over Ethernet (PoE), an external PoE injector was integrated alongside the RUT956 4G router. This preserved the router's compact footprint while ensuring full power delivery to all connected devices on the mast.

Teltonika's RMS allowed full remote visibility, including configuration changes, performance monitoring, firmware updates, and diagnosis. For a high-risk surveillance deployment, faster response to connectivity issues directly translates to fewer gaps in security coverage.

Dual SIM functionality enabled automatic failover between mobile operators if the primary connection became unavailable. In a security camera context, this is not just a convenience – it is a safeguard against coverage gaps at the exact moments that matter most.

This two-layer architecture – operational video data on one side, device management on the other – kept the system both secure and maintainable without adding hardware complexity.
