  • Connectivity for Temperature Sensors in Insulated Industrial Refrigerators

The combination of the RUTX11 and RUTX10 industrial routers enables 4G connectivity for temperature sensors in insulated industrial refrigerators. Learn more here. Connectivity for Temperature Sensors in Insulated Industrial Refrigerators HIGHLIGHTS ✔ Food venues must maintain their stock in stable temperatures to avoid the financial losses resulting from spoiled ingredients. To prevent this from happening, industrial refrigerators must be equipped with thermal sensors. ✔ However, these sensors use Bluetooth to communicate, the signal of which is blocked by the thick metal walls of these refrigerators. ✔ The combination of our RUTX11 cellular router and RUTX10 Ethernet router provides a stable 4G connection to the sensors while also making for efficient use of data. THE CHALLENGE – FAST-FOOD BLUETOOTH It is a fact of our modern life that food must stay refrigerated for it to not spoil. However, in the hustling world of restaurants, cafes, bars, and other food venues, a great deal of planning goes to ensure stable temperatures for ingredients and stock. This is true for anything from relatively small industrial refrigerators to large and insulated room-sized ones, known as walk-in refrigerators. A wide range of air conditioning malfunctions can very easily go unnoticed, causing ingredients to become too warm or too cold, and spoil as a result. The larger the scale of your business, the greater the risk of your stock being wasted, your customers not getting served, and the resulting financial losses. To prevent this from happening, industrial refrigerators must be equipped with thermal sensors, enabling automatic monitoring of temperatures and immediate alerts the moment the temperature changes. However, these sensors use Bluetooth to communicate, and the insulating nature of these refrigerators necessitates thick metal walls that make connectivity unreliable. TOPOLOGY THE SOLUTION – STAYING COOL, STAYING CONNECTED When the environment isn’t connectivity-friendly, it’s best to dispatch the friendliest of connectivity devices! The solution begins with our RUTX11 industrial router, placed by the register for easy access and wide coverage to all small refrigerators in the venue. Wi-Fi, RUTX11 provides network connectivity to a RUTX10 Ethernet router placed in the fridges, which is connected to the temperature sensors via LAN. Both devices can be easily installed using DIN rail, simplifying complexity. The reason for this setup is that a single router would not be able to connect to all the sensors. In addition, using an Ethernet router with a powerful LTE Cat 6 router such as RUTX11 makes for efficient use of data, as the challenge of breaking through the thick metal walls is overcome with Wi-Fi – not cellular data directly. RUTX11 is equipped with switching scenarios such as auto failover and backup WAN, and utilizes Wave-2 802.11ac Dual Band WI-FI. This results in a stable, stable 4G connection to the sensors, and unchanging temperature control. But when a food chain has more than a single venue, managing the routers presents a logistical problem. Sending your engineer to every venue whenever its routers need configuration, maintenance, or firmware update amount takes a lot of time and financial resources. This is where compatibility with the Remote Management System (RMS) of Teltonika Networks helps streamline the workflow by enabling remote access. This allows for remotely configuring and maintaining the routers and routinely updating their firmware – all at once! Of course, for this solution to function properly, it’s important for RUTX10 to be able to operate in the temperatures needed to keep stock refrigerated or frozen. Luckily, both routers operate seamlessly between -40°C and 75°C. Encased in sturdy aluminum housing, they can even take quite a hit without the network getting disrupted! LIKE THIS STORY? This percentage goes higher in the Americas and lower in Africa, with other regions falling somewhere on the spectrum. According to the UN , the global percentage is expected to reach 68% by 2050. Living in urban areas, like all things, comes with pros and cons. One of the better pros is easy access to connectivity thanks to available infrastructure, leading to a higher rate of Internet usage in cities compared to rural areas, where said infrastructure isn’t as prevalent. In other words, Internet access remains a challenge to 43% of the population. While this number will fall to 32% within a few decades, it would still represent over 3 billion individuals worldwide. It’s no surprise, then, that IoT solutions providing Internet access in rural areas aren’t a mere quality of life, but a substantial game changer to how people in those areas live, interact with the world, and become benefiters of modern technological innovations. How do such solutions work, and where does their connectivity come from? Topology The solution – Solar-powered connectivity Connectivity may not be a natural resource in rural areas, but sunlight definitely is. Our partner, Bartech, implements self-sufficient, solar-powered Wi-Fi hotspots using Teltonika’s RUT956 mobile router. These Wi-Fi hotspot stations utilise a solar panel connected to a battery and charge controller to generate, store, and manage solar energy. • IMPROVING YOUR NETWORK’S SECURITY

Teltonika Networks shares vital tips on improving your network’s security, covering your Wi-Fi router and firewall strategies against cyber threats. More News 12/3/2025 RutOS 7.19 firmware update: the latest enhancements 12/3/2025 Teltonika Apps : convenience at your fingertips 11/26/2025 Top IoT Security Risk or Why You Must Update Router Firmware IMPROVING YOUR NETWORK’S SECURITY 22 March 2023 Today’s world is no stranger to the threat of cyberattacks and the importance of protecting your IoT network from one. Despite this, not everyone is taking the necessary security measures. Find out which precautions actually work and learn how to easily cover all your network security basics! Network security threats come in all shapes and sizes – from malicious software to phishing attacks, all coming from cybercriminals. These hackers have a multitude of ways to try and take your precious data, and are getting more advanced by the day, making the potential cost of data breaches sound perplexing – an expected $8 trillion in 2023 alone! With such unfortunate predictions and the ever-increasing number of cyberattacks, one thing becomes clear – the IoT sector must take proactive measures to ensure their network is as secure as it can be. Because at the end of the day, we’re the only ones choosing our own path (our network’s path included!) SECURITY MEASURES THAT WORK While getting into the depths of your network’s security does increase its immunity towards cybercrimes (if done right, of course), it’s vital not to forget taking safety measures right from the base level of your network. After all, no great building has stood the test of time without a solid foundation. For that, we’ve created three videos, each one going over different yet critical areas for shielding your digital operations. A STURDY NETWORK BEGINS WITH A STURDY ROUTER The router of your network is like the roots of a plant - if contaminated, the entire network is compromised, which inevitably leads to its downfall – just like it would for a plant with rotten roots. If your router isn’t secure, cybercriminals have no trouble hacking and taking advantage of its network’s end devices in the blink of an eye. There’s a but, though – you can put the necessary precautions in place with the help of this How to Set Up a Secure Network – Basics video. Physical location, unnecessary protocols, and DNS peculiarities – these are just a couple of topics that our Head of Cybersecurity, Deividas Vyšniauskas, goes over to make your router far less available and easy to hack. And while the video covers the basics of router security – it’s something every person should know and be reminded of, as most of these aspects are often overlooked. WANT TO ESTABLISH A SECURE ACCESS TO YOUR Wi-Fi? Sharing Wi-Fi access is something we all do, but if not done in a secure way, it can be close to inviting bears into your house. And who would want that? Certainly not us, and as we wouldn’t want that for you either, Deividas delves deep into the bits and pieces that lie behind Wi-Fi in this 4 Simple Tips How to Secure Your Wi-Fi video. Deividas presents how to strengthen your Wi-Fi password as well as the importance of selecting the right Wi-Fi bands, the value of using WPA3 for network encryption, and why limiting the use of Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) and Universal Plug and play (UPnP) can improve security and reduce the risk of hacking. As all of it plays a crucial role in Wi-Fi security, it’s something you definitely shouldn’t miss. A FIREWALL FOR A COOL NETWORK When talking about network’s security – a Firewall is something you simply cannot ignore , as it’s one of the first things cybercriminals encounter when attempting to access your network. Acting as a gatekeeper, a Firewall determines whether incoming or outgoing data packets passing through a certain route should be allowed, rejected or dropped , according to its predefined set of rules. By taking a look at this How to Use a Firewall for VLAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN - Office Network Security video, it becomes clear that without Firewall, your network is like a snail without its shell – vulnerable to outside threats. That’s why Deividas provides an in-depth walkthrough on how to enhance your VLAN , Wi-Fi, and VPN security with the help of a Firewall. The video outlines the specific use cases of all three services to ensure you understand the reasons behind each step, leaving no room for misinterpretation or confusion. Although cyberattacks might seem intimidating and overwhelming, there’s not much to worry about if you use the right methods to resist them. And while these are just a couple of ways to do so (with more to come!), we’re always here to help you with any network security issues or concerns. Stay safe and keep cybercriminals empty-handed! THE CHALLENGE – A DREAM OF COMFORT As the march of innovation moves ever forward, our lives become easier and more comfortable. However, while many of us have the luxury of working from home in our slippers, or even from a beach resort with a good Internet connection, not all jobs enjoy the luxuries of remote work. Imagine a construction worker operating heavy machinery, like an excavator or a backhoe loader. The nature of their job not only means they have to be on-site but also that their work environment is far from comfortable. Icy cold, scorching heat, dust, mud, rugged terrain, and the list goes on and on. And that’s without even mentioning work that needs to be done in hazardous environments. Not exactly the peak of comfort technology always promises, is it? They probably would work from home if they could, but building an entire paved road from scratch isn’t a task a makeshift home office can help with. However, this didn’t stop innovators from coming up with remote solutions in which the operator can utilize virtual reality (VR) technologies to operate heavy machinery from a remote station that comes with all the comforts we’ve come to enjoy. The problem is – the bandwidth such a solution would require is beyond the capabilities of a 4G network. Like hoverbikes and teleporters, the technology just isn’t there yet. Or is it? TOPOLOGY THE SOLUTION – 5G PAVES THE FUTURE 4G is not enough, but what about 5G? While this technology has already been around for a few years, it’s only now starting to gain momentum as the infrastructure is finally catching up. • RUTOS 7.02 UPDATE IS NOW LIVE

A substantial part of the magic behind our routers, modems and gateways fits into a five-letter spell - RutOS. And for those already familiar with the potential and capabilities of our software, we got some great news! We have updated RutOS to version 7.02. More News 12/3/2025 RutOS 7.19 firmware update: the latest enhancements 12/3/2025 Teltonika Apps : convenience at your fingertips 11/26/2025 Top IoT Security Risk or Why You Must Update Router Firmware RUTOS 7.02 UPDATE IS NOW LIVE 9 June 2022 Have you ever heard that Teltonika Networks products work like a charm? A substantial part of the magic behind our routers, modems and gateways fits into a five-letter spell - RutOS. And for those already familiar with the potential and capabilities of our software, we got some great news! We have updated RutOS to version 7.02. Let’s look at what our R&D people pulled out of their hats this time! BETTER SECURE THAN SORRY If you somewhat follow the news, you might have noticed that the times have been wild in the cyber world. The cybercrime rates are again at an all-time high and have kept rising every year since 2018. While the growing IoT ecosystems attract more interest from cybercriminals, their security becomes the top priority for IoT developers. And naturally, connectivity equipment could make or break the whole solution as it can and probably will get targeted by malicious parties. As none other of the networking equipment's benefits matter if security is compromised, we are highly invested in maintaining our devices protected from outside threats. For this purpose, we periodically hire third-party experts to perform network security and vulnerability tests. As a result, we have patched multiple of the most recent CVEs and updated some of the services to enhance their security. We have also updated numerous packages to their latest versions. You may find a complete list of fixes and updates in the changelog . SNMP UPGRADE We have also updated the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Many of our clients use this protocol for remote monitoring of their solutions, and we have just extended its' capabilities with the newest upgrade. We have added multiple mobile section parameters, including upload/download data counters and a mobile IP address. Updating to version 5.9.1 also means you will enjoy the safest version of this protocol. GREENGRASS SUPPORT So, this was a request we heard from our clients quite a bit. Although sometimes good things take time, we have recently announced that our RUTX** series devices had become a part of the AWS Partner Device Catalog . This means that all products in this series have successfully passed the necessary testing, and they now officially support AWS IoT Greengrass . Actually, we have just dedicated a whole blog article to celebrate this momentous occasion, and you can read all about it here . IPV6 SUPPORT FOR L2TPV3 VPN Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3) allows point-to-point tunneling of layer two frames across an IP network. The main advantage of L2TPv3 over other L2VPN technologies is that it only requires basic IP connectivity between the routers. No additional protocols or MPLS encapsulation is needed. L2TPv3 VPN is not something new on our routers, and we have been proudly offering it to our clients free of charge for a while now. However, the good news is that it can now read longer IP addresses due to the IPv6 support. This latest IP communication protocol allows identifying smart devices on networks and routing traffic attributed to 128-bit addresses. Besides, the IPv6 standard provides other benefits compared to an almost exhausted IPv4. For example, it allows hierarchical address allocation for route aggregation purposes and reduces the expansion of routing tables. With IPv6, the addressing is simplified and optimized for the delivery of services. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR EYE SENSORS Businesses dealing with vehicle tracking solutions are well aware of Teltonika Telematics trackers. Last year Telematics expanded its product range by introducing two new accessories that allow overseeing even more parameters. They include ID radio signal transmitter EYE Beacon and EYE Sensor , which additionally can record various metrics, like temperature, humidity, acceleration, and magnetic field strength changes. 'But what does it have to do with Teltonika Networks?' - you may ask. The great news is that with the latest RutOS update, the EYE series products may wirelessly connect straight to our networking devices for easy tracking and reporting the sensor data. Enjoy a seamless monitoring experience by combining the best of two Teltonikas! CONTROL YOUR NETWORK ACCESS WITH TACACS+ Once again, based on multiple requests from our clients, we decided to add TACACS+ support to RutOS with the latest update. This easily adaptable security protocol is an excellent alternative to RADIUS (which we have been offering for a while now). Designed with the growing needs of the increasing network security market in mind, it will scale together with your growing network. Tripple A structure best describes the architecture of this protocol: authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA). TACACS+ will cover your secure Hotspot setups, safe web login, and management of users connecting to the router via a remote server. THERE IS A PYTHON IN YOUR ROUTER Did you know that if you Google 'python,' not a single result on the first page would be of an actual snake? That just shows how popular and relevant this programming language is. That being said, we are excited to announce that you may now find an optimized version of Python for download in our Package Manager . It takes very little storage space, so virtually any Teltonika Networks routers will support it. LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! Facebook X (Twitter) LinkedIn Copy link GOT A QUESTION? • 5G Router for Bus Hotspot & Remote Management

Enabling 5G value to bus passengers is our RUTX50, a dual SIM 5G router with auto-failover. Click here to learn more. 5G Router for Bus Hotspot & Remote Management Highlights ✔ In the face of ever-increasing competition in the public transportation market, 5G is the way to provide a more efficient, accessible, and appealing travelling option to your customers. ✔ From high-speed Internet access via a Wi-Fi hotspot to real-time data transmission, GPS tracking, and dynamic routing – 5G offers a new level of value to passengers. ✔ Enabling this networking solution in the Middle East is our RUTX50, a dual SIM 5G router with auto-failover functionality for maximum reliability, cellular speeds of up to 3.3 Gbps, and single-digit latency. The challenge – attention, retention, competition 5G Internet is the hottest trend in the world of public transportation. When competing for customer attention, retention, and business, ensuring the competitiveness of your service is key. Your means of transportation must be more efficient, accessible, and appealing than that of your competitors. A 5G router has a lot to offer in this respect. For example, high-speed Internet access via a Wi-Fi hotspot allows passengers to use their travel time productively and comfortably. In addition, real-time data transmission opens up new doors of passenger value: from GPS tracking allowing them to see the exact location of buses in real-time, to dynamic routing, where buses can adjust their routes based on current traffic conditions or demand to optimise travel times. Lastly, a 5G router supports the deployment of IoT devices, such as sensors that monitor vehicle health and passenger counts. This data can be used to improve maintenance schedules and manage passenger loads more effectively. With this amount of value on the table, the choice of a 5G router is paramount. And when it comes to important 5G decisions, our client in the Middle East Teltonika Networks always has a reliable answer. Topology The solution – 5G router for 5G value Providing passenger buses with this immense 5G value pack is the Teltonika Networks RUTX50 5G router. This 5G SIM router is installed in an overhead cabinet near the driver seat. From there, it broadcasts a robust 5G network throughout the bus. To access the RUTX50’s hotspot, passengers are required to input their phone number to receive an SMS OTP (one-time password). This authentication enables per-passenger limitations, such as Internet access expiration (e.g., one hour per day) and upload/download bandwidth and speed. In addition, the landing page for the login can be customised to any language. In this case, the needed language was Arabic. On the driver’s end of things, a tablet uses the Wi-Fi for route navigation and receiving updates from headquarters. In addition, a report covering data usage and duration per passenger is automatically generated. This is done using a WinSCP software which extracts the database file using the Secure Copy Protocol (SCP). A DB Browser application is then used to export the .DB file as a .CVS file for further data filtering. Thanks to this cellular router, all of this operates at cellular speeds of up to 3.3 Gbps and single-digit latency. But as any network engineer could tell you, speed is nothing if the connection isn’t reliable. Luckily, the RUTX50 isn’t just a 5G router with a SIM slot – it’s a dual SIM 5G router. In essence, this means the cellular router comes with auto-failover functionality, backup WAN, and other switching scenarios. If the connection of the first SIM card is interrupted for any reason, the other SIM card will pick up the mantle and ensure seamless connectivity without any hiccups. Further bolstering this 5G router’s reliability is its backward compatibility with 4G (LTE Cat 20) and 3G. Buses travel long distances, after all, and there is no guarantee 5G coverage will be available in all areas and destinations. In such cases, the RUTX50 will instead provide robust 4G connectivity. And in dire cases where event 4G isn’t available – the device will provide 3G instead. Another important aspect of this public transport networking solution is remote management capabilities. You want to maintain remote monitoring and access to your buses no matter where they are, and that means a remote management tool is vital. To that end, our Remote Management System (RMS) is the perfect IoT platform for the job. RMS is a remote management tool providing remote access and control capabilities to your fleet of 5G routers in all of your buses, no matter where they are. By eliminating the need for your engineers to travel themselves, RMS lets you cut costs on anything from firmware updates to password changing and troubleshooting. Don’t let the competition get the edge – future proof your business with the value of 5G technology. LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! Facebook X (Twitter) LinkedIn Copy link GOT A QUESTION?
