- Secure remote office connectivity
In this undoubtedly the World’s Largest Work-From-Home Experiment RUT241 is perfect for remote home office connectivity. Secure and reliable remote office connectivity SUMMARY The global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at the beginning of 2020 has brought unseen challenges to the global economies. This is undoubtedly the World’s Largest Work-From-Home Experiment, and it would not be possible without important technology and connectivity advancements that happened over the last few decades. However, even with widespread broadband and cellular connectivity, businesses must take extra steps to make sure their workforces are not only connected to the Internet but also use the right equipment. It is essential to make sure that devices used can prevent cybersecurity threats and integrate with enterprise systems that would otherwise stay within office walls. CHALLENGE Most companies, with mainly office-based workforces, are using numerous measures to ensure that the information and systems they work with stay safe from always happening cyber threats. The most efficient way to do that is to make sure workers don’t have access to internal systems and databases of the company away from the office. Naturally, most of the work-related tasks require to access those systems. Most networking professionals know that the correct solution here is to set-up encrypted virtual private networks (VPNs) to allow secure data connection from outside the enterprise network. However, this is only a part of a solution since most of the home users connect to the Internet using routers provided by their ISP’s which are not accessible or capable of allowing such a set-up. Besides, the threat of wired internet downtime is increased as ISPs are subject to maintenance worker shortages due to mandatory or advisory quarantine measures. SOLUTION To easily comprehend the solution, we must break it down to a few simple components. Firstly, professional cellular routers, such as RUT241 by Teltonika Networks shown in the topology above, can minimize the risk of Internet downtime, providing connectivity through mobile 4G LTE. The TRM500 is a Teltonika 5G modem with cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps and a USB Type-C interface. Click here to learn more. More News 12/3/2025 RutOS 7.19 firmware update: the latest enhancements 12/3/2025 Teltonika Apps : convenience at your fingertips 11/26/2025 Top IoT Security Risk or Why You Must Update Router Firmware Introducing the Teltonika TRM500 USB Type-C 5G Modem 24 July 2024 The TRM500 is a Teltonika 5G modem with cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps and a USB Type-C interface, providing your industrial IoT solutions with robust connectivity and interface flexibility. In this article, we cover the main features of this 5G cellular modem and the value they offer. Considering the modem is the cornerstone of connectivity, the cellular modem section of Teltonika’s product portfolio doesn’t get enough of a spotlight. Up until today, it consisted of the TRM240 and TRM250 , which provide reliable 4G connectivity and feature compact housing at an affordable price. The reason to choose a cellular modem is that not every IoT solution needs the capabilities of a router or IoT gateway , and so paying for features you won’t use is a cost waiting to be cut. Machines that need connectivity but not network control and other advanced features, like payment terminals and coffee machines, could do just fine with only a cellular modem. While modems don’t provide advanced network control features, this doesn’t mean that the connectivity provided by a modem must be limited to older Internet technologies. This is why we are excited to introduce a new cellular modem to the world: the TRM500 5G modem. 5G Fundamentals: Speed, Latency, Reliability The TRM500 is a 5G modem boasting cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps. It supports both SA and NSA 5G architectures, but keep in mind that NSA is where you can truly benefit from this speed. With 5G technology comes reduced latency, of course, so rest assured that the TRM500 features single-digit latency as well. In case this 5G cellular modem is deployed to an area with unreliable 5G coverage, backward compatibility with both 4G (Cat 19) and 3G will maintain uninterrupted connection. With such capabilities, IoT solutions utilising the TRM500 gain a robust bandwidth to work with, enabling higher-processing tasks and enhanced data transmission. Interfaces: USB Type-C & More Now that we know the 5G capabilities offered by the TRM500, let’s talk interfaces, starting with the proudest of them all: USB Type-C. This 24-pin connector is commonly used in industrial IoT solutions. Notably, the USB Type-C interface of this 5G modem can play the role of a virtual network interface and enable simultaneous network data transmission and powering of the TRM500. This makes USB Type-C a truly flexible interface. This 5G USB modem is also equipped with a 4-pin connector allowing for 9-30 VDC in case the USB Type-C powering isn’t enough. Once powered, the TRM500 consumed up to 5 W when idle and up to 12 W maximum. Lastly, this 5G modem also features a single SIM card slot and four SMA antenna interfaces for enhanced cellular coverage. Hardware: Physical Specs The TRM500 measures 83 x 25 x 85.4 mm and weighs only 94.5 g, making it an extra compact and lightweight connectivity source. This 5G USB modem is housed in IP30 anodised aluminium housing and panels , ensuring its sturdiness. It can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40 °C to 75 °C and humidity ranging from 10% to 90% (non-condensing). If you can think of an industrial environment to deploy your solution to, the TRM500 will take it on with ease. In terms of mounting, this 5G modem can be easily mounted on a DIN rail, wall mount, or flat surface, each with the help of an appropriate kit. This makes it a plug-and-play device, leaving setup complexity back in the past, where it belongs. Time for You to Try It! - Creating a Landmine-Free World with Ariadna
Explore Teltonika Networks' IoT devices contribute to creating a landmine-free world with Ariadna technology. Discover the use case now! Creating a Landmine-Free World with Ariadna HIGHLIGHTS ✔ KoNaR is a student robotics interest group at the Department of Cybernetics and Robotics of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. It takes part in international projects covering robot construction and control, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems. ✔ In order to compete in the Minesweepers international robotic competition on humanitarian demining, KoNaR designed the Ariadna autonomous pyrotechnic robot. However, this robot needed a way to establish reliable communication with its command center. ✔ Coming to the rescue was a pair of our RUT241 industrial cellular routers, with their compact size and easy-to- install nature playing key roles in this solution. THE CHALLENGE – A REAL-LIFE VERSION OF MINESWEEPER There are an estimated 110 million land mines in the ground at this very moment, killing or maiming over 5000 people annually. Demining efforts are being made, of course, but each mine costs $3-30 to make and $300-1000 to remove, while more of them are being planted than removed each year. A solution to this problem must, by the nature of how dangerous demining can be, involve the use of robots. To that end, many robotics developers compete in the Minesweepers international robotic competition on humanitarian demining. KoNaR is one of those competitors, inspired by the concise mission statement of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers: “to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.” KoNaR’s creation was the Ariadna autonomous pyrotechnic robot, capable of detecting mines, avoiding collision with obstacles, carrying cargo, and returning to its base of operations. A suite of modern sensors, including LIDAR, GPS, IMU, and Depth Camera, allow Ariadna to take on demining missions. But as any autonomous robot developer can tell you, autonomy doesn’t mean much if communication between robot and operator, as well as optional remote control, aren’t also part of the package. Basically, KoNaR needed a way to establish reliable communication with Ariadna as it set out to the wilderness in search of life-threatening mines. TOPOLOGY THE SOLUTION – SWEET CHILD O’ MINE The students at KoNaR asked the group’s graduates for advice on connectivity devices with proven success in robotics use cases. The graduates, naturally, recommended Teltonika Networks. A pair of our RUT241 industrial cellular routers were chosen to be implemented – one in Ariadna’s PC, connected via an Ethernet cable, and another in the command center. This setup of two routers provides a superb, steady connection performance bolstered by a dedicated VPN service, and allows the command center to have full control over Ariadna using Wi-Fi. This is all in spite of the adverse environmental conditions and long distances covered by the robot in its routine demining missions. In addition, as Ariadna is already packed with devices – space is at a premium. Key features of the RUT241 in this solution are therefore its compact size and easy-to-install nature, which succeed in establishing stable network connectivity at no cost to setup complexity. - GET READY, AUSTRALIA. RUTX50 JOINS TRB500 IN ATTAINING RCM CERTIFICATION
Our 5G devices have attained RCM certification, allowing us to provide our clients with great connectivity in Australia, accelerating toward widespread 5G adoption. More News 12/3/2025 RutOS 7.19 firmware update: the latest enhancements 12/3/2025 Teltonika Apps : convenience at your fingertips 11/26/2025 Top IoT Security Risk or Why You Must Update Router Firmware GET READY, AUSTRALIA. RUTX50 JOINS TRB500 IN ATTAINING RCM CERTIFICATION 13 June 2023 Attaining certificates for Teltonika Networks devices is one of the most significant steps that ensure device expansion to new markets. Prepare for the 5G future of Australia, as RUTX50 is ready to pave this road! ENABLING TOMORROW’S MOBILE NORM From the moment we launched our first 5G devices in the autumn of 2022, we’ve been continuously working on their certification processes around the globe. So we’re very excited to announce that our RUTX50 cellular router has now joined its cousin, the TRB500 gateway, and is now certified by RCM , confirming that both of our 5G networking devices are safe for distribution in the Australian market. What makes both the RUTX50 and TRB500 excel is their strategic development of backward compatibility with 4G LTE (Cat 20) and 3G network technologies. This feature is key when considering the reliability, flexibility, and robustness of network connectivity for a solution with zero tolerance for interruptions or loss of connectivity. Aside from taking care of the past, RUX50 provides an array of other benefits: top-notch network speeds of up to 3.3 Gbps and ultra-low latency, which are irreplaceable for data-heavy applications, just like live-streaming children’s football practices for their parents . NOT JUST ANOTHER CERTIFICATION Much like all things in life, change is inevitable, and 3G mobile technology is soon to be shut down worldwide, including in Australia . This shift aims to provide a larger spectrum for its more advanced counterparts – 4G and 5G. That’s why our excitement is not only from our 5G devices achieving this recognition but also the prospects we can now help our clients with in Australia. Especially when this continent is moving at increasingly high speeds towards 5G technology implementation around living areas, with some ISPs like Telstra planning to reach 95% 5G coverage by 2025. FUTURE-PROOFING IS INEVITABLE While it’s true that 4G isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, it’s crucial to future-proof projects and solutions, especially ones intended to withstand the demands of upcoming decades. Why? Because you don’t really want to make the same mistake people did when they relied too much on 3G-only devices. When demand for greater speeds and increased data traffic became the new norm across all industries, all fleets of 3G networking devices had to be replaced with 4G-compatible ones, which resulted in immense costs and a huge loss of operational efficiency. Additionally, network capacity experiences around 60% of annual growth in traffic, leaving less connectivity space for devices. To avoid the mistake made with 3G devices and connectivity limitations and get all the greatest perks of 4G and 5G technologies, equipping yourself with devices that are future-ready yet still compatible with the past is the way to go. - 4G LTE Router for Smart Building Access Control
Transform your building with keyless, mobile-enabled access using a Teltonika's 4G LTE router. Ensure secure, remote door control anytime, anywhere. Door automation with 4G LTE router HIGHLIGHTS ✔️ Doordeck , a forward-thinking SaaS startup, is transforming the way people access buildings by replacing outdated key cards and fobs with NFC-powered smartphone technology. ✔️ At the heart of the connectivity layer, Teltonika RUT241 4G LTE router ensures a stable mobile internet connection wherever the system is deployed. As an industrial-grade router, it’s designed for reliability in demanding environments. ✔️ The compact Doordeck Box encapsulates the entire access control solution in a single enclosure, dramatically simplifying installation. It integrates effortlessly with existing access systems or operates as a standalone solution. THE CHALLENGE – OUTDATED ACCESS CONTROL Traditional access systems built on physical key cards and fobs introduce several critical limitations—both in terms of security and practicality. These items are easily lost, stolen, or shared between individuals, undermining control over who accesses a building and when. In fact, a survey found that 41% of office workers have lost or had their access credentials stolen, and 34% admitted to sharing them with others, highlighting just how vulnerable these systems are to misuse. Moreover, they fail to provide verifiable, real-time user identification, leaving security gaps that modern facilities can no longer afford. From an administrative perspective, dealing with lost cards, managing user access levels, and onboarding new individuals requires significant time and effort. These outdated systems increase operational workload and delay access control adjustments—especially problematic for growing organizations and flexible work environments. In today’s world, where real-time monitoring, secure access, and remote management have become standard expectations, traditional systems fall short. Organizations looking to modernize need a new approach—one that is not only more secure but also scalable, easy to deploy, and simple to manage remotely TOPOLOGY THE SOLUTION – NFC ACCESS WITH A 4G LTE ROUTER Doordeck developed an innovative access control platform built entirely around smartphone-based NFC door lock entry. By eliminating the need for key cards or fobs, they removed the friction of physical access tokens and created a system that is both more secure and easier to manage. The centerpiece of their deployment model is the Doordeck Box, a sleek, self-contained unit that houses all necessary components for automatic and quick door opening. At its core lies the Teltonika RUT241, an industrial grade 4G LTE WAN router responsible for delivering continuous, reliable internet connectivity to the system. As a WAN router, it enables easy and consistent connection to the internet backbone. By leveraging Teal’s programmable eSIM router capabilities, the RUT241 automatically connects to the most stable local network, providing dependable mobile access. The router’s robust features and compact form factor make it an ideal fit for integration within the Doordeck Box. Just as crucial is the inclusion of Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS) , a cloud-based platform that empowers system administrators and integrators with full visibility and control over every deployed router. Through RMS, the network of devices can be monitored in real time, firmware and configuration updates can be pushed remotely, and connectivity issues can be diagnosed without stepping foot on-site. This significantly reduces the time, cost, and complexity involved in managing large-scale deployments. When a user taps their smartphone on the NFC door lock tile at the entry point, the Doordeck app sends an encrypted signal to the cloud. This request travels through the RUT241 industrial-grade router to a Axis relay, which activates the lock mechanism in under half a second. The entire process is seamless, contactless, and secure—and it all hinges on stable connectivity and remote system reliability. This solution is more than just a technological upgrade. It represents a shift toward scalable, future-proof infrastructure that empowers property managers and security teams to maintain complete control over access without physical presence.
