We find every single one of them important and inspiring but it is especially heartwarming to know that our devices play a role in humanitarian causes saving people’s lives and wellbeing. Today we are excited to share a story we received from volunteers in the German THW organization , providing technical assistance in events like floods, traffic accidents, fires, power outages, storms, people gone missing, and similar situations of distress. SPECIAL THANKS First, we would like to say a huge thanks to Vito Verde and the whole THW for doing such a fantastic job and for sharing all of this with us. We were amazed to find out that 99 percent of the members at THW are volunteers and there are more than 80 000 of them across the whole of Germany spending their free time providing humanitarian aid to people in the most challenging situations. Modern equipment and well-trained specialists are the basis of high efficiency in THW. SUMMARY The volunteers in the THW department of the City of Pfaffenhofen are using multiple drones for various missions like Search and Rescue, exploration of mission sites, hotspot search after the fire, and others. After gathering the information, it needs to be transferred to different recipients like other response teams or off-site decision-makers as fast as possible. As technology improves, the requirements are also changing. A few years ago, it was an achievement to get a 3MB .jpeg image to another team via email. Today it is possible to set up a 1080p Full-HD live stream directly from the flying drone to the internet, so decision-makers 50 kilometers away can immediately do their job. SOLUTION Mounted in the truck of the Drone Team, the Teltonika Networks RUT240 cellular router provides a stable, reliable, and always-on internet connectivity via 3G or 4G network for the devices in and around the vehicle. Three different drones are connected via WIFI for live mapping, mission planning, and live streaming. At the same time, five tablet devices are connected for steering the drones and transferring pictures and videos in HD. Additionally, two laptops are connected via WIFI for office work, mission organization, and flight planning. There is also a printer inside the truck which is using wired connectivity to provide fast print-outs for other response teams like firefighters or medical personnel. If the 3G or 4G signal not strong enough in remote areas, a magnet outdoor antenna may be set on the top of the truck for better service. WHY TELTONIKA NETWORKS? As commented by a representative of THW: Teltonika Networks is a well-known networking company building stable, reliable networking connections, and is also trusted in a few companies of our volunteers where they work full time. THW of Pfaffenhofen has been using another Teltonika Networks device for years. RUT750 was providing connectivity in poorly covered areas for multiple mission sites. The RUT240 fits perfectly into the Drone SAR Truck and provides perfect results.' The TRM500 is a Teltonika 5G modem with cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps and a USB Type-C interface. Click here to learn more. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices Introducing the Teltonika TRM500 USB Type-C 5G Modem 24 July 2024 The TRM500 is a Teltonika 5G modem with cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps and a USB Type-C interface, providing your industrial IoT solutions with robust connectivity and interface flexibility. In this article, we cover the main features of this 5G cellular modem and the value they offer. Considering the modem is the cornerstone of connectivity, the cellular modem section of Teltonika’s product portfolio doesn’t get enough of a spotlight. Up until today, it consisted of the TRM240 and TRM250 , which provide reliable 4G connectivity and feature compact housing at an affordable price. The reason to choose a cellular modem is that not every IoT solution needs the capabilities of a router or IoT gateway , and so paying for features you won’t use is a cost waiting to be cut. Machines that need connectivity but not network control and other advanced features, like payment terminals and coffee machines, could do just fine with only a cellular modem. While modems don’t provide advanced network control features, this doesn’t mean that the connectivity provided by a modem must be limited to older Internet technologies. This is why we are excited to introduce a new cellular modem to the world: the TRM500 5G modem. 5G Fundamentals: Speed, Latency, Reliability The TRM500 is a 5G modem boasting cellular speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps. It supports both SA and NSA 5G architectures, but keep in mind that NSA is where you can truly benefit from this speed. With 5G technology comes reduced latency, of course, so rest assured that the TRM500 features single-digit latency as well. In case this 5G cellular modem is deployed to an area with unreliable 5G coverage, backward compatibility with both 4G (Cat 19) and 3G will maintain uninterrupted connection. With such capabilities, IoT solutions utilising the TRM500 gain a robust bandwidth to work with, enabling higher-processing tasks and enhanced data transmission. Interfaces: USB Type-C & More Now that we know the 5G capabilities offered by the TRM500, let’s talk interfaces, starting with the proudest of them all: USB Type-C. This 24-pin connector is commonly used in industrial IoT solutions. Notably, the USB Type-C interface of this 5G modem can play the role of a virtual network interface and enable simultaneous network data transmission and powering of the TRM500. This makes USB Type-C a truly flexible interface. This 5G USB modem is also equipped with a 4-pin connector allowing for 9-30 VDC in case the USB Type-C powering isn’t enough. Once powered, the TRM500 consumed up to 5 W when idle and up to 12 W maximum. Lastly, this 5G modem also features a single SIM card slot and four SMA antenna interfaces for enhanced cellular coverage. Hardware: Physical Specs The TRM500 measures 83 x 25 x 85.4 mm and weighs only 94.5 g, making it an extra compact and lightweight connectivity source. This 5G USB modem is housed in IP30 anodised aluminium housing and panels , ensuring its sturdiness. It can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40 °C to 75 °C and humidity ranging from 10% to 90% (non-condensing). If you can think of an industrial environment to deploy your solution to, the TRM500 will take it on with ease. In terms of mounting, this 5G modem can be easily mounted on a DIN rail, wall mount, or flat surface, each with the help of an appropriate kit. This makes it a plug-and-play device, leaving setup complexity back in the past, where it belongs. Time for You to Try It! Press the button below to reach out to us and acquire a sample of the TRM500 5G modem. This one has a great amount of value to offer, and we’re confident you won’t be disappointed. What 5G device or modem would you like to see next? We take your feedback to heart, so please make sure to let us know! LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! - GPS-LESS DEVICE LOCALIZATION WITH RMS
Once a day, RMS checks the cell ID to which the device is connected and approximates where on the map the device is located in relation to that cell tower. You can find it on your device page by clicking on Device Map. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices GPS-LESS DEVICE LOCALIZATION WITH RMS 2 June 2022 As the Internet of Things connects an exponential number of devices, solutions, and people, it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore the importance of cellular as a WAN infrastructure. The age of the trusty Ethernet cable isn’t coming to an end any time soon, but the world is big and globalized enough that for many IoT solutions, cellular is the way to go. The device may not have a built-in GPS, but the cell tower that provides it with cellular connectivity is still in a fixed location. Once a day, RMS checks the cell ID to which the device is connected and approximates where on the map the device is located in relation to that cell tower. You can find it on your device page by clicking on Device Map. There are many reasons why approximating the location of your devices this way is useful. It allows you to track them in case they get lost or stolen, or if your business is mobile by nature and keeping track of your devices is a regular part of your checklist. It can also help with troubleshooting, as the engineer can correlate problems with the device with environmental factors surrounding it, such as if the area loses power. Knowing which cell tower provides your devices with cellular internet can also inform how you want to distribute your devices across a particular area. Perhaps you want to ensure all of them get it from the same source, or maybe the opposite – you rather diversify the sources as much as possible. Different IoT solutions would have different ideas of the optimal positioning of their devices, but more available data is welcome either way. As it happens, the popularity of cellular internet enables our Remote Management System (RMS) to approximate the location of any cellular router or gateway with an active mobile connection – even if the device doesn’t have any GPS capabilities. How does that work? This isn’t a new feature, by the way – we knew it would be useful for our clients, so RMS already does this, currently working with 4G, 3G, and 2G. Will it work with 5G one day? Definitely! It is only a matter of time until 5G gains enough momentum and establishes itself as the new standard, and RMS will be ready for it once that happens. LIKE THIS STORY?
More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices VPNとは? プロトコルの例としてはPPTP、L2TP/IPsec/SSTP/IKEv2/OpenVPNなどがあります。 LIKE THIS STORY? - Understanding the eSIM Technology and Unlocking Its Power with RMS
Learn how eSIM works, why implementation matters, and how Teltonika combines broad compatibility with RMS for flexible remote management. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices Understanding the eSIM Technology and Unlocking Its Power with RMS 2 September 2025 The integration of eSIM has revolutionized connectivity, offering unparalleled flexibility and convenience by eliminating the need for physical SIM cards. However, having an eSIM-enabled device is only part of the story. The true value and utility of eSIM largely depends on how it is implemented, as not all eSIM devices are created equal. This article will delve into the nuances of eSIM standards and demonstrate why robust and intelligent implementation is paramount, especially for professional users. Breaking Down eSIM Standards: SGP.22 vs. SGP.32 The GSMA, a global organization representing mobile operators, defines various technical specifications for eSIM . Among the most prominent are SGP.22 and SGP.32. SGP.22: This specification defines the architecture and operational framework for consumer eSIMs, predominantly used in devices like smartphones, tablets, and wearables. SGP.22 primarily supports a user-initiated "pull" mechanism for profile management, where users download and activate profiles through device interfaces (e.g., scanning a QR code or using an app). Its widespread adoption makes it a highly popular and compatible standard across a vast range of devices and service providers. SGP.32: Emerging as an evolution of SGP.22, SGP.32 is specifically designed for Internet of Things (IoT) and enterprise applications. It introduces significant advancements, including server-initiated "push" profile management, allowing network operators to remotely manage and update profiles without requiring direct user interaction. This feature is crucial for large-scale IoT deployments, devices with limited user interfaces, and scenarios demanding bulk profile management and seamless profile switching. The Critical Difference: eSIM Implementation Matters The presence of an eSIM alone doesn't guarantee a convenient or efficient user experience. The how of its implementation drastically impacts usability and operational value. Consider two hypothetical 5G router manufacturers: Company A takes a thoughtful, user-centric approach. Their eSIM-enabled 5G router supports multiple ways to manage profiles, including uploading QR codes through a web interface, entering activation codes manually, and switching between profiles using a remote management system. This flexible approach makes it easy to deploy and manage devices at scale or in environments with limited physical access. Company B , on the other hand, takes a bare-minimum approach. While their 5G router also includes eSIM functionality, it only allows profile changes via a Command Line Interface (CLI), requiring users to type in activation strings manually. There is no web interface and no remote management capabilities. The contrast is clear: both companies offer eSIM on paper, but the real-world usability and scalability differ significantly. Company A delivers a robust, intuitive experience with remote capabilities, while Company B’s solution feels rigid and outdated, especially in professional or large-scale applications. This highlights a critical point: not all eSIMs devices are equal. The implementation details dictate ease of use, flexibility, and real operational value for the customer. Compatibility and Advanced Management, Teltonika’s Way While SGP.22 is often referred to as a "consumer" standard, its popularity and broad compatibility make it an excellent foundation. We have strategically implemented the SGP.22 standard in our hardware, ensuring maximum compatibility with the vast majority of eSIM service providers. This means that if a provider offers eSIM services, there's a high probability it will be compatible with our devices. However, recognizing the sophisticated needs of professional users, we have gone beyond the basic SGP.22 implementation. We understand that professional environments demand robust, large-scale remote management capabilities, features more commonly associated with the newer SGP.32 standard. To address this, we have integrated comprehensive remote profile management and swapping functionalities through the Remote Management System (RMS) . This unique combination allows us to leverage the widespread compatibility of SGP.22 while providing advanced, centralized, and remote control over eSIM profiles. In essence, we have implemented the most compatible format (SGP.22) and enhanced it with full, large-scale remote management capabilities, mirroring and in some cases exceeding, the benefits of server-initiated management. It's important to clarify this distinction, as there's a common misconception in the market that SGP.22-based solutions inherently lack remote management capabilities. That’s not the case with our implementation. What we created is the best of both worlds: the wide compatibility of SGP.22 with the remote management power of SGP.32. Teltonika eSIM Routers: Real Versatility for Professionals From compact LTE routers to dual-modem 5G powerhouses, Teltonika offers a range of eSIM-capable devices designed with real-world deployment in mind.
