Is there are plans for the Linux version of the RMS VPN client? Currently, there are no plans for the Linux RMS VPN client application. However, users can use RMS VPN with any other compatible OpenVPN client software. I have logged in to RMS, but 3rd party devices are not showing. How do I get my devices on my RMS portal? Direct accessing of 3rd party devices is supported only with RMS Connect. To list your devices, you must add them manually to your RMS Connect -> Remote access list. For instructions on how to add a new connection, check our wiki page . Please explain On Demand Usage. RMS Connect and RMS VPN allow users to decide when open communication to a selected end device and only pay for service when in use. What are the main differences between the standard RMS and the RMS VPN? RMS VPN is a part of the Teltonika Networks RMS. It allows users to easily and quickly establish access to or between remote networks. Can I purchase only RMS VPN? Yes, RMS VPN can work as a standalone service. Just remember without RMS Management, some functionality, like automatic client configuration for Teltonika Networks devices, will be missing. I have RUTX11 with active free 30 days trial. Can I pause it? If RMS Management free 30 days trial is active is not possible to pause it. Do you require only one license for all devices or a license per device? RMS Connect and RMS VPN licensing depends on the user-selected approach. If flexibility is the priority, select credits for data. This data is shared with all devices in the RMS account. If long-term or high data usage is a priority, then the Data package is a better option. It assigns to the specific Teltonika Networks device. - KEY ADVANTAGES OF RUTOS: RELIABILITY
RutOS helps to significantly cut costs on engineers’ training while implementing new products. Besides, it grants flexibility when migrating between different devices and platforms. The system is open-source; therefore, every client can change and adapt RutOS to get the most out of each Teltonika Networks device. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices KEY ADVANTAGES OF RUTOS: RELIABILITY 7 September 2020 In this series of articles, we would like to take a closer look at the software at the heart of Teltonika Networks products – RutOS. RutOS is a unified operating system based on OpenWrt. It is factory-embedded into every Teltonika Networks device, so no installation is required from the user, and there are no additional costs. This system enables our customers to have an excellent user experience due to its’ incredibly intuitive interface. RutOS helps to significantly cut costs on engineers’ training while implementing new products. Besides, it grants flexibility when migrating between different devices and platforms. The system is open-source; therefore, every client can change and adapt RutOS to get the most out of each Teltonika Networks device. Let’s look more deeply at how our software can help you achieve your business goals as we are focusing on its’ three core qualities: reliability, security, and ease of use. RELIABILITY Connection stability and overall reliability is definitely at the top of the priority list when choosing an industrial router. Throughout the development process of RutOS, we included a variety of safeguards to ensure that the devices are accessible and functioning properly at all times while affording a possibility to manage them remotely. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the most important features, helping Teltonika Networks products stand out in the market. AUTO-REBOOT One of such properties is Auto-Reboot . Automatic reboots can be used as a routine or precautionary measure to ensure that the device will self-correct some unexpected issues, especially related to connection downtime. This feature alone can prevent major service disruptions to ensure critical business continuity and solve any reliability issues before they make an impact on your solution! Ping Reboot function periodically sends requests to a specified IP address or host and waits for a response. If no response is received, the device will attempt the same action a defined number of times at a defined frequency. If there is still no response, the device will execute a specified action, which can be pre-set according to your specific needs. For example, it could trigger the router to reconnect if internet access was lost. It is also possible to set up Periodic Reboots for specified time intervals regardless of the other circumstances. Eventually, this function can save significant time and therefore costs by making one essential step to resolve absolute most of connectivity issues, so you don’t have to. WATCHDOG While the Ping Reboot helps to solve external network problems, the Watchdog functionality monitors, whether internal systems and devices are working as they are intended to. The Watchdog inspects if the software or hardware is active in specific time intervals. Whenever the application is down, and the service does not respond, the Watchdog will reset the hardware. It is important in mission-critical applications. It also reduces human involvement in such simple tasks, like turning a device off/on. This saves time and costs, while normally, the end- users would not even spot something went wrong. SMS CONTROL RutOS also offers a set of default rules that perform certain actions when they are activated by SMS messages. The default list contains more than 20 rules which may be edited; however, a user may configure custom ones too. SMS Utilities provide great flexibility in managing a device remotely. For example, it allows rebooting a router, turning mobile data on and off, checking mobile data limit status, changing mobile data settings, upgrading firmware, and many more. New rules are continuously being added through updates, and a complete majority of RutOS functions can be easily configured via SMS. In essence, most of RutOS functions can be adjusted using SMS. While this may not be the most convenient way to do this, it can certainly help to pull through in situations where there is just no other way. AUTOMATIC SIM SWITCH The automatic SIM Switch functionality provides a possibility to configure rules for the device to switch from one SIM card to another under specific circumstances. This feature is irreplaceable in a variety of industrial, energy, or IoT solutions, where losing connection is beyond possibility. Dual SIM functionality with an auto switch option provides reliability and prevents downtime. For example, a user may use the services of two different operators, and whenever the primary connection is lost or the signal strength becomes weaker than desired, the router will switch to the secondary SIM card. It might as well be extremely useful in transport applications when the vehicles are traveling across different countries. Having set up automated switch rules for two SIM cards helps to save on high roaming charges. This functionality can also be set up to balance out data plans. The router will detect the data limit and switch to secondary SIM whenever that limit is reached. There are so many scenarios where the automatic SIM switch can be useful and essentially save the continuity of a solution without any human involvement. FAILOVER Similarly to automatic SIM switch, the failover functionality provides connection continuity, just on a different level. The failover allows backing up the primary WAN connection in case it goes down. The user may set up priorities for each interface to be used whenever a higher option in the list loses connection or becomes insufficient. For example, when the primary wired connectivity is lost, the router could choose from up to three more back up options in Teltonika Networks routers: SIM 1, SIM2, and Wi-Fi depending on the model. ATMs are a good example where having a single connectivity option is out of the question due to the risks of downtime. Nowadays, the complete majority of ATMs across the globe are using industrial cellular routers to ensure connection continuity between ATMs and central systems of the bank, and leveraging multiple connectivity sources at the same time, including wired and cellular. TIME SYNCHRONIZATION Teltonika Networks routers use Network Time Protocol (NTP) for clock synchronization between computer systems over packet-switched, variable-latency data networks. A user may either select the time zone of the device, choose mobile operator synchronization for routers using a SIM card, or enable GPS synchronization for carrying out this task. Synchronization via the GPS module does not require having an internet connection. However, this type of synching functions only in our devices with GNSS functionality. In RutOS, the users are provided with four default time servers, but custom ones can be added too, as per the clients’ needs. Our products may act as both: NTP Client and NTP Server, meaning that they are also capable of providing clock synchronization to the other devices in the network. This is essential in the industrial sector when sensors and data readings must be accurately time-stamped and analyzed. MOBILE BANDLOCKS LTE Band locking , available in RutOS, solves a problem in areas that are close to the borders of foreign countries. As the cellular provider signals overlap, your router might be periodically switching between different operators, which affects the stability of your connection. The band that is chosen automatically might not be the one that will offer the fastest or the most stable connection available. Locking your device to a specific LTE band can have a significant effect on your Internet connection speed, reliability, and cost. EVENT REPORTING Event Reporting allows configuring rules and get informed via SMS or email when certain events occur on a device. These events can be almost anything – configuration changes, reboots, new connections, various status updates, and more. A single SMS reporting a changed status of mobile connection or digital input can save the solution operators from significant losses or downtime, especially in mission-critical situations. Imagine, you are responsible for the network availability of dozens of Industrial plants and over the weekend you get a notification that in one of them, the router is not able to reconnect to a controller and the plant cannot continue operations. Early notification can save the whole operation and make the diagnostics of an issue much easier and time-efficient. Here we reviewed only the main of the features, ensuring the reliability of Teltonika Networks products while using RutOS. Our focus is to prevent problems before they happen, or at least afford a possibility for a swift reaction, whenever the prevention is not possible. In the next section, we would like to familiarize you with a none-the-less important aspect of our software - security. LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends! Teltonika Remote Management System - an extensive introduction Thursday, 26 March 2020 at 7:00:00 UTC Register The Remote Management System by Teltonika Networks is one of the most useful tools when it comes to remote monitoring and management of our gateways, routers and devices connected to them. \nIn this upcoming webinar we want to showcase main RMS functionalities and key advantages that significantly save time and operational costs for hundreds of Teltonika Networks partners who use RMS already. SPEAKERS Questions & Answers Can we also set some max communication MB per device that we receive an alert when the limit is reached? Through RMS you can currently set an alert to be sent when certain data usage is reached, although you cannot currently set a mobile data limit. This feature will be added in the future once Multi-config functionality is expanded. Can RMS be used for TRM devices? No, RMS cannot be used with TRM devices. Does RMS support another devices apart from Teltonika to manage? Which ports we will have to open on the firewall so that RMS would able to reach the device? To access a non-Teltonika device you will only need to have an accessible web interface port (for most devices it is 80). What others brand can connect to RMS? You can currently only connect Teltonika devices to RMS, though using the RMS access functionality you can remotely reach the WebUI of non-Teltonika devices that are connected to Teltonika devices. What happens when internet connection interrupts when firmware update is in progress? If your connection gets interrupted while the firmware is being uploaded to the device, the upload will continue the next time the device connects to RMS. If it gets interrupted while the firmware is installing, the firmware will get installed without any issue. When will approximately the RMS connect be available? Q3 or Q4. How can you connect your own device to the RMS? Please check How to Add a New Device to RMS video. Configuration, rules about using the backup SIM. Report about the consumption, let say SIM1 has a credit limit for 10GB and SIM2 has a limit or 5 GB. Currently, using the Multi-config functionality, you can set SIM switching rules for both SIM cards. Also using the Alerts system you can set up a warning when a certain data limit is reached. Though at the moment, you cannot set a data limit, but this will be implemented in the future when we expand the Multi-config functionality. It is possible have multiple RMS Accounts managing the same Routers? Yes. One RMS company can have an unlimited amount of users. There are also multiple different roles, which can limit certain features. Do you plan to release a virtual VPN service on top of RMS to access all devices connected to router LAN not only for HTTP/HTTPS traffic? If so, when is it scheduled? This type of functionality will be introduced with RMS Connect, which is planned to release Q3-Q4 2020. How can I access a non Teltonika device via the RMS like showed in the demo? Please check this link . What kind of features will the RMS API contain after the first release? It will contain accessibility to all data collected from devices, as well as all exports available from RMS (backup configuration, event logs, troubleshoot). How much data/megabytes logs generate per day? Also, can offline-logs be uploaded after an outage? How much data is generated and how often, is configurable through RMS, you are able to choose which parameters are sent to RMS. RMS does not gather data from offline devices. Even though RMS doesn't need public IP of Teltonika for registration, but I think if we need port forward for a Teltonika device, internet provider will need to provide sim card's public IP address, right? Devices connect to a public network and only need to have an internet connection to connect to RMS. No public IP is needed. Is there an API to interface RMS with other solutions? RMS API functionality will be introduced in April. How much data does one router take (per month), when it communicates with RMS servers - roughly? By default, without changing how often information gets updated, RMS uses ~3.54 MB down / 8.44 MB up There is the device map. Why don't I see all devices (in my case all of them RUT950), which are online in the device map. I can only see a subset of them - 11 of 14 online. Your carrier GSM towers may have not yet updated your device location. If the devices in question still do not show up on the map, you can individually set each device location. Will there be a Teltonika MQTT protocol description available anytime soon? Contact your sales manager from Teltonika and we will send a protocol description. If a PLC it is connected to a Teltonika router, it is possible to access it? Or it can access only other routers? If the PLC in question has a web interface, you can access it using RMS. You mentioned that there is no need for public IP address. How? Devices connect to a public network and only need to have an internet connection to connect to RMS. Any devices will work with RMS? Only Teltonika routers and gateways can be managed by RMS solution. How do we configure non-Teltonika devices to appear in RMS web interface? At the moment you cannot configure non-Teltonika devices to appear in RMS device list. Is it possible to run the RMS on a separate server? We plan to operate many Teltonika devices with our own APN without access to the Internet. Yes, RMS has a local version which can be run on a separate server. How is the WebUI redirect configured? Is there an automatic detection of the local WebUI? Teltonika device WebUI is detected automatically, while non-Teltonika device web interfaces are found by the given port while setting up the RMS access rules. Can we set RMS access link time limit to 'unlimited'? Yes When using multi-config, and devices are offline, will the selected actions be performed, when devices come back online? If yes, what is the timeout period? At the moment you cannot use multi-config on offline devices, though this will be implemented in the future. Can you set a hard data cap (Eg. 200MB download per day)? In the future, you will be able to use Multi-config to set a mobile data cap for each device. Is there any kind of automatic rollback in case you make a configuration mistake? Example - if you make a change that results in losing a connection between RMS and the device, will the device recognize that and load previous settings after some time? RMS does not currently have this functionality. Devices will keep trying to connect to RMS, though if the device does not have an internet connection, it will not connect to RMS. Is it possible to set a permanent link in RMS to a non-Teltonika device? Yes. For the devices Map, if the RUT does not have GPS or cannot get a location, does the Map locate using Cellular Location Technologies, CELLID, RSSI, Timings etc.? Yes. What will happen if I am updating firmware of 100 devices and suddenly there is no power or no internet for 2-5 units? All offline devices will be updated when they connect again to the server. Firmware update means to configure all devices from the beginning? So, if FW update will reset the devices to default? By default, if you update to a newer firmware version, all settings will remain unchanged, though updating to an older version will reset all settings. Is there an API for RMS, to be able to configure/monitor the devices from external systems? In April we will introduce RMS API functionality. The password manager, is it like password access management? Using the Password management functionality you can change passwords for selected devices to either a single password you type in or individually randomly generated passwords. You can also set password for all your devices using a CSV file. Will the routers be able to get the unique/true MAC address of the device even if MAC address randomization is enabled? Yes How do I buy a license for RMS? More information about license purchaces you can find in RMS where to buy section. Alert on e-mail? Yes, you can get email alerts. SMS/Email alert will come from SIM card of the router or from RMS web? SMS alerts will be sent from the router SIM card, Email alerts will be sent from RMS. Device configuration: can we configure the SSID / Hotspot / LAN / or only 'MOBILE, SIM Management, SMS Limit'? In the future we will be expanding the Multi-config functionality to include your mentioned features, though at the moment you can only configure mobile settings. For how many days license will be valid? Now it is called a credit, but validation will be the same – 30 days. Is it possible to get remote access to the shell of the non Teltonika unit? Not at the moment, though this functionality will be available with RMS Connect. Can reports be automated and sent to a specific e-mail? Yes. Any plan to support Teltonika's modems with RMS? We currently do not have this feature planned. Can we collect some user data on RMS? We do not collect user data in RMS. Can you forward any other protocols such as SSH or VNC viewer to access other devices behind the router? In the future will introduce the RMS connect functionality which will let you access SSH, VNC, RDP protocols. Any plan to offer CoAP based protocol as alternative to MQTT? It is planned in the future. Is the out of band management only available on Cisco ISR? It is available for other routers, not just Cisco. Do you have plans for VPN in RMS? VPN functionality will be introduced with RMS Connect. Will you have an option to see GPIO data from RUT955 or TRB141 in the future? You can already see GPIO data in RMS for all supported devices. Can login screen be also “white labeled”? If by “white labeled” you mean re-branded to your company, then yes, you can purchase a re-branded RMS version. So we can request RMS to use our company name as well as our client name, yes? Yes. Can I write for example python script and use RS485 to work with my program, for example query for our device status and send server? You can do that with the RMS sensor functionality which will be introduced in the future. Is the data accessible for different Business Intelligence systems, like Microsoft PowerBI? It is possible to send data from router to Microsoft IoT Hub. If it is possible to access Microsoft IoT Hub data from Microsoft PowerBI, you can access it that way. - EXCITING RMS NEWS: CONNECT & API
We initially created the RMS to simplify the monitoring of Teltonika Networks routers and gateways. It allows convenient access to our devices from anywhere in the world while guaranteeing the security and reliability of the connection. More News 1/28/2026 Meet Altos: The Wi-Fi 7 Router Invited to Your Living Room 1/21/2026 Managed vs unmanaged switches: choose the right fit 1/20/2026 Password Security Standards – Best Practices to Protect your Devices EXCITING RMS NEWS: CONNECT & API 10 September 2020 In technology, a system is as good as it is constantly updated. In Teltonika Networks, it is at the top of our priority list to make sure that our clients are satisfied. Therefore, we listen to their feedback and work on various developments all the time. Just recently, we made some exciting improvements to our Remote Management System (RMS). We initially created the RMS to simplify the monitoring of Teltonika Networks routers and gateways. It allows convenient access to our devices from anywhere in the world while guaranteeing the security and reliability of the connection. It ensures our networking products are always reachable and provides event alerts, various reporting options, easy multi-configuration, and convenient firmware updates to any number of devices via FOTA. Now, this functionality will be singled out into one of the RMS family features – RMS Management. Since we introduced the initial version of RMS, it did not take long to notice the demand for another functionality – reaching the end-devices of any solution remotely. After careful consideration and development process, today, we are happy to introduce RMS Connect functionality. It enables the access and control of non-Teltonika Networks devices via RDP/VNC, SSH, or HTTP(S) protocols without any additional software. It does not require a public IP or a third-party VPN service. The implications of this are massive. With RMS Connect, you can access virtually any smart product that has either Web User Interface based on HTTP(S) or Command Line Interface via SSH tunnels. This includes CCTV cameras, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Point of Sale terminals (POS), Dataloggers, and many more devices responsible for automating and controlling the infrastructure of the public and private sectors. Even better, with RMS Connect, you can set-up a direct secure connection to all equipment compatible with RDP or VNC protocols. With a single Teltonika Networks router, or a gateway, and an RMS account, you can directly access all Windows or Linux machines without Public IP or VPN, just as if you would be sitting in front of them. This opens up immense possibilities for easier and more efficient remote management. However, the good news does not stop here! Another functionality we just implemented – RMS API – provides a possibility to carry endless RMS features into your in-house IoT platform, in case you would rather stick to your familiar interface. That is probably the biggest beauty of the RMS – you can use whatever you like and leave the rest. It adapts to your particular business needs and your environment. Starting with a user interface, varying methods to reach devices or selecting features, and ending with a pricing model that works best in your business case – you are in control to choose all of it! With the above changes, we elevated RMS from a device management platform to an IoT platform. But this is just a fraction of a bigger exciting project we are relentlessly working on and will present to you soon! Our future vision for RMS is that each major upgrade turns it into an even more capable platform to monitor, manage, and control every part of your IoT infrastructure. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our online webinar, where we will discuss all the new features and changes in the RMS. You may also check out the updated RMS features on our website. Feeling curious to try out the system for yourself? Great! We offer a free 30-day trial of RMS Management for anyone buying a compatible Teltonika Networks device! LIKE THIS STORY? Share it with friends!
